Introduction

Civil Engineering is considered as one of the most globally accepted and broader premier branch among other branches of Engineering. The challenges of today’s civil engineering infrastructure are much more complex and are interdependent between various resources. Civil engineering focuses on the infrastructure of the world which include Water works, Sewers, Dams, Power Plants, Transmission Towers/Lines, Rail roads, Highways, Bridges, Tunnels, Irrigation Canals, River Navigation, Shipping Canals, Traffic Control, Mass Transit, Airport Runways, Terminals, etc. Due to the impact of development in technology, it has diversified into sub branches like Structural engineering, Geotechnical engineering, Transportation engineering, Water Resource engineering, Hydraulics, Environmental engineering, Railway engineering, Urban Infrastructures & Construction technology, Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographical Information System (GIS).

Join us in building the foundation for a better tomorrow!

The Department of Civil Engineering @ SSSE

The department of civil engineering was established in the year 2010-11 with an intake of 60 students and the intake was increased to 120 during the year 2014-2015. Walkathon on “ Road Safety Awareness Week”, 20/01/2025

The road safety awareness walkathon was inaugurated by Dr. L Sanjeev Kumar, Principal SSSE in presence of around 80 students and it is coordinated by Dr. Vijay B G, HOD- Civil and Mrs. Tejaswini C from the department of civil engineering. Road safety teaches people how to conduct themselves while driving or crossing roads. Road safety measures, including the use of road barriers and highway barriers, are aimed at reducing the risks of people getting involved in accidents in the first place. Following these measures, the chances of accidents, injuries and damage to property are vastly reduced.

“Industrial visit to Markonahalli Dam and Melukote”, on 22/03/2025

The Civil engineering department has visited the markonahalli dam and melkote, the Industrial Visit Coordinator: Dr. Syeda Nikhat Fathima initiated the event along with Faculties accompanied by Dr.Vijay B G HOD-Civil, Dr.R Shivakumar, Mr.Santosha T, Mrs.Sreenidhi H M and Mr.BasavaPrabhu R (Lab Instructor). Markonahalli Dam is built across the river Shimsha in the Kunigal Taluk of Tumkur district. It was built by Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, the king of Mysore, under the guidance of his Diwan, Sir M Visweswaraiah. It was built to irrigate 6,070 hectares of land and has a masonry structure of 139 m and a pair of earth dams extending to 1,470 metres on either side. Industrial visits to dams and reservoirs offer students a practical, hands-on understanding of water resource management, engineering design, and environmental impact, supplementing theoretical knowledge learned in the classroom.

They can gain insights into the challenges and opportunities within the industry, helping them make informed decisions about their future career paths.

The SSSE college campuses in Tumkur , Karnataka, often has conducted tree plantation initiatives. Inaugurated by Dr. L Sanjeev Kumar, Principal These events, often organized by student clubs, civil and mechanical engineering departments. Aim to increase green cover, raise environmental awareness, and beautify the campus. Plantation drives are a way to educate students about the importance of trees and the need for environmental conservation.

Plantation drives encourage students to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle and contribute to a greener future. Students, faculty, and staff members often participate in planting saplings on designated areas of the campus.
